Memo: Designed a sustainable product against deforestation

I created Memo to make transaction receipts sustainable. In my research, I discovered that 2 billion receipts are wasted each year in the Netherlands and 300 worldwide. The challenge was to reduce that. I designed an app where users save receipts intuitively, making it sustainable everywhere for the environment.

Project

Challenge

How can we reduce receipts with a digital product that enables people to store their receipts easily?

Project Project

Solution

By making the app automatic and easy to use, users can store their receipts digitally without any effort. This directly reduces receipts. Changing the way of how we use receipts. Testing shows that users would use the app, motivated by both its simplicity and its positive impact on the environment.

For example, many users were unaware of how many paper receipts are produced worldwide. This awareness alone motivated them to switch to digital. On top of that, the automatic storing means users never have to think about their receipts again.

Insights show that people feel good about contributing to the environment. At the same time, they value the safety of adding their bank card. The solution of this app can have an impact on sustainability.
